Meredith Chesler, Esq., who joined Vishnick McGovern Milizio LLP in February
2018, is an associate in the firm’s Trust and Estate Administration
Practice Group. In this capacity, Ms. Chesler is involved in the Surrogate’s
Court practice, including administration of decedents’ estates;
admitting wills to probate; administration and settlement of estates;
distribution of assets; and administration of estates when there is no will.
Ms. Chesler is a proficient communicator who honed her skills working closely
with clients, opposing counsel and expert witnesses. She previously practiced
Matrimonial and Family Law in a Suffolk County, NY, law firm for four
years, where she represented clients in Family Court and Supreme Court.
She researched matters related to this area of the law; additionally,
she wrote orders to show cause, pleadings, petitions, subpoenas and memoranda of law.
Ms. Chesler received her Juris Doctor degree from St. John’s University
School of Law, which she attended on a St. Thomas More Full Tuition Scholarship.
She was a member of the
New York International Law Review
Journal of International and Comparative Law. During law school, she interned for Hon. Margaret Parisi-McGowan, Queens
County Family Court; Civil Legal Advice and Resource Office (CLARO); and
Hon. Joel Blumenfeld, Queens County Supreme Court. She was a research
assistant and student intern in the law school’s Elder Law Clinic
and a volunteer at LIFT (Legal Information for Families Today), an organization
that enhances access to justice for children and families.
A graduate of Binghamton University College of Arts and Sciences, where
she was elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa, Ms. Chesler received
a Bachelor of Arts degree, summa cum laude, in Italian and Spanish. She
studied in Italy as a scholarship recipient during college summer breaks.
Ms. Chesler is committed to giving back to the communities in which we
live and work. Her participation in not-for-profit activities has included
volunteering in Island Harvest’s annual letter carriers’ food
drive and Long Island Cares’ food pantry distribution and fundraising.
Enthusiastic about athletics, as both a participant and spectator, she
is a Zumba and kick boxing devotee who takes every opportunity to indulge
in her love of travel.
