Avrohom Gefen, a partner in Vishnick McGovern Milizio's Litigation Practice group, specializes in commercial and employment litigation. His extensive litigation experience includes representing businesses and individuals in a wide variety of matters before federal and state courts and administrative tribunals such as the EEOC, United States Labor Department, New York State Labor Department, and the New York State and New York City Commissions on Human Rights.
In addition to his litigation practice, Mr. Gefen also advises employers on a wide variety of topics, including termination decisions, employee discipline, personnel policies and compliance with federal, state and local statutes including the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) and the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). This work includes drafting and revising employee handbooks, personnel policies, offer letters and employment and separation agreements.
Mr. Gefen received his Juris Doctorate from Fordham University School of Law. While attending Fordham, he was a member of the Fordham University International Law Journal and selected as a Moot Court board member. A Summa Cum Laude graduate of Touro College, Mr. Gefen was the recipient of the Touro College Political Science Award. Mr. Gefen was named a Rising Star by New York Super Lawyers in 2015 and 2016.
Mr. Gefen is a member of the Labor and Employment, Commercial and Federal Litigation Sections of the New York State Bar Association, as well as the Queens County and Nassau County Bar Associations and he serves on the board of the Brandeis Association. His many published articles include: Important Labor Updates (2016); Employment or Independent Contractor? (2015); New York City Set to Expand Paid Sick Leave Law (2014); and Protect Your Business from a Wage and Hour Lawsuit (2013).
He is member of the Board of Trustees of Congregation Chesed V'Emes in Bayswater, New York and a member of the Advisory Board of Rutgers University Jewish Experience.
Mr. Gefen is admitted to practice in the State of New York and the United States District Courts in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
