James F. Burdi, Esq.is a partner in Vishnick McGovern Milizio LLP's Trusts and Estates and Elder Law Practice Groups, concentrating in Trust and Estate Planning and Administration.
He advises and assists clients in preparing both simple and complex estate plans, including aspects of tax planning, as well as planning for families with special needs. He also represents clients in probate proceedings, Surrogate’s accountings and other matters involving trust and estate administration.
Before joining Vishnick McGovern Milizio in 2011, Mr. Burdi had his own firm in Garden City, New York, initially as a partner with Jack F. Burdi until 1983, and later as a sole practitioner. Earlier, he was employed as a title examiner and clearance officer by City Title Insurance Company.
Mr. Burdi is a member of the New York State and Nassau County Bar Associations. He also is former counsel to the Advisory Committee of the New York State Law Revision Commission for the Estates, Powers and Trusts Law and the Surrogate’s Court Procedure Act. Mr. Burdi is a past president and current member of the Columbian Lawyers Association of Nassau County and past president of the Catholic Lawyers Guild of the Diocese of Rockville Centre. In addition to these professional associations, Mr. Burdi is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Garden City where he served as president from (1999-2000) and the Society of Mutual Aid of Bitetto, in which he serves as a member of its Council.
Mr. Burdi earned his Juris Doctor degree from St. John's School of Law and is admitted to practice in New York State Courts and in the Federal Courts of the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. He holds the highest (AV) peer review rating awarded for professional ability by Martindale-Hubbell. He is a frequent lecturer in continuing legal education at St. John’s School of Law and has addressed professional audiences and students on various legal topics.
