Michael D. Humphrey, who leads Vishnick McGovern Milizio’s Charitable Bequest Management Group, serves as Counsel in the firm’s Trust and Estate Practice and Tax Law Practice, focusing his legal work on contested fiduciary accounting proceedings of both trusts and estates.
The not-for-profit organizations who are clients of VMM’s Charitable Bequest Management Group benefit from Mr. Humphrey’s vast fiduciary accounting experience, which provides him with the unique skill set required to carefully analyze and critique the accountings of both executors and trustees, ensuring that the charitable organization receives the full legacy or bequest as intended by their philanthropic donors. When applied to the representation of both individual and institutional fiduciaries, his ability to prepare complex and multi-year accountings enables him to properly counsel fiduciaries in avoiding the all-too-common accounting pitfalls that typically trigger disputes, thereby minimizing risk and exposure to litigious beneficiaries.
Mr. Humphrey’s practice also includes providing legal counsel in the areas of probate and administration proceedings, trust and estate administration, estate tax, fiduciary income tax, guardianship and estate planning.
Mr. Humphrey received his Juris Doctor degree from the Vermont Law School and his undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee. He is admitted to practice law in the State of New York and is a member of the Nassau County Bar Association. Mr. Humphrey also is a member of the Long Island Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFPLI) and the Philanthropic Planning Group of Greater New York (PPGGNY).
