As a result of Winter Storm Juno, many companies were unable to open for
business. This has raised many questions from employers regarding the
payment of wages. In particular, if a business was closed due to the storm,
do the employees have to get paid?
Generally speaking, employees paid on an hourly basis do not have to be
paid for time not worked. While some companies are nevertheless paying
their employees, others cannot afford to do so.
Salaried employees, however, must be paid for the entire week (without
any deductions) if they worked a portion of the workweek but then are
unable to work the remainder of the week because of the company's
closure. If the company is closed the entire workweek, then neither hourly
nor salaried employees must be paid.
Naturally, your situation may be different depending upon company policies
